 | | Last week's image featured the Clinton Folger "horsemobile." Between 1906 and 1918, the town of Nantucket forbade the use of all automobiles and motorcycles on town streets. Folger, wanting to defy the law, hooked his Overland up to a horse, had it dragged to the Mooney farm at the end of Orange Street, and drove his car to Siasconset to deliver the mail. Milestone Road, as a state-owned road, was exempt from the Selectmen's ruling. Thank you to Robert Mooney Jr. & Sr., Robert Young, Mary Williams, Robert Gambee, Grace Yates and Robert Sylvia. |
