OBITUARY
Robert S. Salisbury, M.D., beloved husband of Geraldine Gardiner Salisbury, died of pancreatic cancer on August 28, 2007 in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 76 years old.

Born in New York City, Dr. Salisbury graduated from Walden School and CCNY (now CUNY), with a master's degree from Columbia University. During the Korean conflict, he served in the Military Intelligence branch of the U.S. Army. While pursuing a PhD in Political Science at the University of North Carolina, he became interested in pursuing a career in medical administration, working first for the U.S. Public Health Service, followed by administration at Duke University Hospital, Misericordia Hospital in New York and finally administration of a group of medical clinics in West Virginia. He then decided to enter medical school at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, followed by residencies in both Clinical and Anatomical Pathology. Dr. Salisbury then practiced medicine in West Virginia for 25 years. For several years he also taught at West Virginia University Medical School.

Dr. Salisbury met his wife, Nantucket native Geraldine Gardiner ("GG"), one summer on Nantucket. The following summer he secured a position as a special policeman at the Nantucket Airport. Shortly thereafter, he and GG were married at her mother's home on Academy Lane. The ensuing fifty-six years led the Salisburys to reside in New York, North Carolina, West Virginia and, finally, Florida, but Nantucket was a constant in their lives.

An avid gardener, Dr. Salisbury was an active member and former president of the Nantucket Community Garden. He volunteered for several seasons at the Hospital Thrift Shop. As a supporter of Saltmarsh Senior Center, he enjoyed bridge and various other programs there. A lifelong Unitarian, Dr. Salisbury was a former member of the Unitarian Church in Nantucket.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Salisbury leaves three children: Kathryn E. Salisbury of Providence, R.I.; Terry B. Salisbury of St. Petersburg, Fla; and Andrew G. Salisbury of Vienna, WV; and three grandchildren, Tristram and Victoria of Vienna, WV; and William of St. Petersburg, Fla. He is also survived by his brother Lee H. Salisbury of Bainbridge Island, Wash. and Fairbanks, Alaska.

Burial will be at a later date in Prospect Hill Cemetery. I
