Milestones
Robert B. Caron, graduate of Nantucket High School in 2002 and of Hobart College in 2006 has completed the Unites States Marine Officer Candidates School Training Command at Quantico, Virginia. The Training and Commissioning ceremonies took place on August 10, 2007. He participated in the Graduation Parade with members of Alpha and Charlie Companies and received his Marine Officer's Commission as Second Lieutenant at the Commissioning Ceremony at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The Oath of Office was administered by Brigadier General Richard Tryon, USMC at the first commissioning ceremony to be held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Second Lieutenant Caron is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Caron. He was a three sport athlete at Nantucket High and played quarterback for the Hobart Statesmen Football team. After a brief leave, Second Lieutenant Caron will rejoin his company at the Quantico facility to continue training until February 2008 whereupon he will be assigned to active duty.

Nantucket-based executive search consultant Lucy Apthorp Leske is a new vice president and shareholder of Witt/Kieffer, the nation's eighth-largest executive search firm specializing in health care and higher education. Witt/Kieffer President/CEO Jim Gauss announced her promotion at the firm's corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, IL.

A 16-year search veteran, Leske is part of the firm's higher education and not-for-profit practice. She conducts a wide range of searches including president, vice president, dean and provost for colleges and universities, academic medical centers, community hospitals and service organizations.

Leske started her search career in 1991 with the boutique firm, Educational Management Network on Nantucket, which later merged with Witt/Kieffer in 1998. According to Gauss, Leske will continue to expand her practice in advancement, academic administration, student affairs and presidential search with a growing emphasis on supporting successful leadership transition. She also joins the firm's 32 shareholders in leading and setting direction for the firm, he said.

Leske specializes in recruiting minority leaders to education and not-for-profit settings, and serves on the firm's Diversity Task Force to support clients as they develop increasingly diverse leadership teams. She writes and lectures on a broad range of leadership topics for organizations such as the American Council on Education and Council on Advancement and Support for Education. Leske is nationally known for her work on career development for college and university women administrators.

An organic gardener and freelance writer on horticulture and conservation issues, Leske received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.
