PROCESS FAR FROM OPEN

The following letter was sent to the Nantucket Board of Selectmen and is reprinted here at the author's request.

Gentlemen and Lady:

The request of Westmoor Farms to pave West Chester Street was decided by a vote of 3 to 2. Therefore, we are writing as group of residents of West Chester Street to ask the Board of Selectmen to make a motion to reconsider their vote of July 11, 2007.

In the over two year period that this process has been under way the residents of the street have not had any opportunity to present their opinion either as a group or individually.

While the various boards involved may have met the legal requirements for this action, the process has been far from open and transparent as is required by due process and good government.

It is our understanding that a motion for reconsideration has to be made by a board member who voted in favor of the original motion. From the record, it appears that Mr. Reinhard would be the appropriate person to propose the motion for reconsideration.

We were not notified that the proposal was being presented and would appreciate the opportunity to present our views to the board.

Sincerely,

- Michael Levy and several West Chester Street residents
