ARTSTS' ASSOCIATION OF NANTUCKET

19 Washington St. The AAN Gallery is a cooperative representing over 150 year-round and seasonal Nantucket artists, from emerging talent to seasoned veterans with an established following. Open daily 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., with fresh exhibitions hanging every two weeks throughout the season until the holidays. Upcoming: a five-artist feature show, "Summer Small Works," a photography salon and a special exhibition on the theme of Collaboration. 228-0294. ART CABINET

2 Union St. Art Cabinet Nantucket opens the door of a new studio at 18 Dukes Road. Doerte Neudert shows the latest work of Wilfredo Chiesa, Charlotte Culot, Ben Georgia, as well as paintings and sculptures from her private collection (By appointment, 617- 407- 5165). Brigham Galleries

54 Centre St. Brigham is an international art gallery in the heart of Nantucket featuring classic to contemporary art with a strong portraiture division. Todd Reifers' painting of Nantucket's 12-metre boats is featured. Saturday, August 6, (6 - 8 p.m.), Peter Trippi presents on "Collecting Beauty Now". Currently the Editor of Fine Art Connoisseur, Trippi directed NY's Dahesh Museum and is a noted pre-Raphaelite scholar. Call to R.s.v.p.: 825-2525.

Cavalier Galleries

34 Main St. Cavalier Galleries, Inc. presents a feature exhibition of new paintings by Dutch maritime artist, Maarten Platje. These works will be on display at our Nantucket gallery from Aug. 16 - 23. EASY STREET GALLERY

27 Easy St. Daniel Sutherland has been photographing Nantucket for 25 years, capturing the beauty of a fragile landscape that has been competently preserved. His images capture the spirit of the Island during arresting moments that seemingly only he has access to. His body of work is comprehensive as art, as well as conservation. It is to-date the most complete record of the landscape and seascape presently, and is important as public record. Daniel is also is a highly creative abstract photographer. GAIL SHARRETTS STUDIO

32 Surfside Rd. Recent winner of the Artist Association of Nantucket's Juried Exhibit, Gail Sharretts has an unusual and diverse collection of work - "not your typical Nantucket Gallery." At a reception on Fri., Aug. 24, from 6 - 8 p.m., you can meet Sharretts, the sculptor, painter, abstract artists and "chief bottle washer" behind the place.

GALLERY AT FOUR INDIA

Upstairs at 4 India St. The gallery presents a new exhibition, "Prismatic Light: The art of John P. Osborne and Louis Comfort Tiffany and Studios," on display through Aug. 31. The second featured exhibition that week is "The Bare Truth of Master Artists," featuring the work of Pamela Pindell, August 17- 31. The gallery also shows a huge collection of 19th and 20th century American and European masters. The Gallery at Four India is open daily, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and year-round since 1989.

GALLERY BLUE

20 & 21 Old South Wharf Galleryblue is featuring the combined work of Dale C. Bradley of North Adams, MA, and Zerbie Sodervick of Rochester, NY in its small gallery. Both artists have had openings this summer at galleryblue and focus on a range of artwork from sculpted paper, collograph, cast acrylic medium and acrylic painting. Judith A. Brust's main gallery showcases her large oil monoprints, original silk scarves rendered from her artwork and limited edition photo-etched monoprints based on Nantucket by Elizabeth King Durand. Join them each Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and meet the artists.

HOSTETLER GALLERY

2 Old South Wharf The Hostetler Gallery is exclusively dedicated to more than five decades of the sculptures and prints of David Hostetler, master direct wood sculptor. Hostetler has become celebrated for his interpretation of the female form using rare and exotic hardwoods and bronze. 2006 debuts Ziricote wood, Lacewood and zebrawood sculptures. Museums, corporate, public and residential sites all over the world are home to Hostetler sculptures. "Lyrical", "sensual", "primordial," have all been used to describe his works.

JOHN EVANS GALLERY

13 Old South Wharf Dee Solin's Interpretation II, on exhibit, has been selected as a finalist in the Artist's Magazine 24th Annual Art Competition. Gisela Hoyer's sensitive and musical work has been enjoyed in Europe and now comes to America. Two painters that demonstrate the versatility of contemporary thought, and are right at home with the sculpture of John Evans and Norman Lebeau.

MERIDIAN GALLERIES

25B Washington St. Meridian Galleries presents a contemporary marine artistry exhibit, with classic and contemporary "marines," including tall ships, America's Cup yachts, motor cruisers and dinghies. Artists include Dimetrious Athas, Ken Evans, Lisa Horrigan, George Elmer Browne, David Lussier, Yves Parent and others.

Mielko Galleries

4 Old South Wharf Capturing the light and life of Nantucket for over 30 years, the Mielko Gallery exhibits the work of Tom Mielko, Rowenna Anderson and island artists Doug and Deb Sosebee.

The Old Spouter Gallery will celebrate island art with a 10th Anniversary

Artists of the Gallery Exhibition and Reception on Friday, August 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Patrons and friends are invited to join together in recognition of the gallery's 10 years representing local talent. Gallery hours for the fine arts and the expanded shop area are Monday through Thursday and Saturday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. for the reception, and one further Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m.

14 Atlantic Ave. Known for his dramatic seascapes, moody dark-hued interiors, and vivid bold floral's, Paul Galschneider also exhibits at Even Keel Cafe and J Pepper Frazier.

3 India St. Opening Friday, August 24 (with a reception from 4 to 8 p.m.) is new work by Nantucket artist/actor John Devaney. His exhibit runs through September 6. Meanwhile, at the studio gallery work by other South Wharf Gallery artists including David Lazarus, Megan Hinton, Elizabeth Congdon, Anne Sutherland, Christine Sanford and Molly Dee is available by appointment by calling 228-5242.

SCRIMSHANDER GALLERY

19 Old South Wharf The gallery features the work of Michael Vienneau, over a dozen of the nation's leading scrimshanders and antique scrimshaw and cribbage boards from Alaska, as well as Sailors'Valentines and ship models.

12 Orange St. The gallery features the work of Kasia Baker, Virginia Joffe, Robert McKee, Hunter McKee, Ted Rabidoux and David Halliday. A group show will be held at the
