'Opera punks' on 'Sconset
"We are committed to presenting vibrant musical performances in an intimate setting and believe that affordable, accessible productions should also be exciting, beautiful and fresh," said co-founding member Brittany Duncan, who made her theatrical debut as a young girl playing a gnome on the stage of the 'Sconset Casino. "Anything Goes!" will be "in the spirit of Broadway actors' colony performances of summers long past." The company recently held its inaugural performance, Mozart's "Idomeneo," at Lothrup Auditorium at the Community Church of Boston and boasts the mantle given them recently by the Boston Metro - "Chamber Opera Punks." This name came mostly because its members are young and idealistic about rejuvenating their art form. According to the company's Web site, the group's main mission is "to present high-caliber, affordable and accessible classical music to a wide community of music and art lovers." All performers hail from the Boston area, including soprano Duncan, tenor Kyle Hemingway, mezzo-soprano Cabiria Jacobsen and baritone J. Jacob Krause - who has worked on productions throughout Boston at Harvard University, Wheelock Family Theater and Company One. Molly Wood accompanies on piano. When: Sun.., Aug. 26, 4 p.m. Where: 'Sconset Chapel, 18 new Street Cost: Free; Sponsored by the Siasconset Union Chapel. For more information on the group, go to www.operahub.org. |
