I ON SELECTMEN
SELECTMEN, CONVENING AS THE BOARD OF HEALTH, WILL: • Hear a request for a waiver of a penalty fee from the owner of One Love market. The health department levied a $600 fee against the business on Aug. 6, maintaining that it was open and making sales prior to becoming licensed. • Hear a status report on proposed long-term rental regulations. Convening as the County Commissioners, the board will: • Hold a public hearing to consider discontinuing or altering an order of taking for a portion of Tennessee Avenue. • Hear a request to adopt a pre-disaster mitigation plan for the town which has been found satisfactory by the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency and now requires adoption by the local governing body. CONVENING AS THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN, MEMBERS WILL: • Hold a public hearing to consider applications for vacancies on the Capital Program Committee, Cemetery Commission Work Group, Commission on Disability and Parks and Recreation Commission for appointments on Sept. 5. • Hear a request from the Department of Public Works for approval of road projects. • Review preliminary FY09 expense and revenue projections. • Vote on approval of the town's pre-disaster mitigation plan. AT ITS MEETING WEDNESDAY, AUG. 15, THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN: • Took no action on a request for fee waivers from Nantucket Homes for People, tabled from Aug. 8 meeting. • Unanimously approved a request from the Planning Commission for support of an application to the Community Preservation Committee to fund the position of a housing planner/specialist position. • Voted 3 to 1 (Willauer abstained) against a request from the Nantucket Housing Office for letters of support for two applications to the Community Preservation Committee for housing-related projects. One is to create two rental units on Miller's Lane; the other is for modular units at 2 Clarendon St. and 3 Norquarta Drive. Selectman Roggeveen said it should be up to the CPC and that it would do a disservice to other applicants if the selectmen lend support to these projects. • Voted 4 to 1 (Roggeveen opposed) to endorse street opening regulations, continued from July 18. • Unanimously approved an application from Great Harbor Yacht Club for a common victualler's license for a snack bar in its junior sailing club. • Unanimously approved an application from Cisco Brewers for an annual malt only, on premises license for its brewery and an application from Nantucket Vineyard for an annual wine only, general on premises license for the businesses at 5 Bartlett Farm Road. The approval is contingent on the board receiving plans for the property. • Unanimously denied an appeal from Stephen A. Wise of Historic District Commission certificates of appropriateness for 2 East Hallowell Lane. - Compiled by Mary Lancaster |
