"Young Man & the Sea: Recipes & Crispy Fish Tales from Esca" by David Pasternack & Ed Levine

"Young Man & the Sea: Recipes & Crispy Fish Tales from Esca"

by David Pasternack & Ed Levine When I'm starting with something as good as Nantucket Bay scallops (which are as good as it gets), I feel it's my job as a cook to stay out of the way and let the scallops speak for themselves. In other words, "Don't mess with perfection." So says David Pasternack in his new fish cookbook. The recipes are written with uncommon clarity; they are inventive but simple and are accompanied by the stories of an obviously impassioned fisherman whose day job is chef/owner of Esca in NYC. Among other tales, Pasternack profiles one of the last crabmen on Long Island and recounts the story of his favorite fried clam shack. The bonita are running and the bass are in - It's a good time to devour this mouth-watering cookbook!

"Catie Copley"
by Deborah Kovacs
and illustrated by Jared T. Williams
This is the charming new picture book based on the real-life experiences of a black Labrador, Catie Copley, who works as a member of the guest services team at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. The narrative and colorful watercolor illustrations capture the dog's point of view, especially the balance between her eagerness and her obedience. Children, be they dog owners or not, will love this book. For a chance to meet Catie, and get a paw-print signature on a copy of her book, come to the Nantucket Atheneum on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 4 p.m.

"300"

(Rated R for graphic battle sequences throughout, some sexuality and nudity.)

Frank Miller's graphic novel comes to life in this dazzling war epic. Based on the battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C., this film tells the story of how 300 Spartans were able to take on a large force of Persian soldiers. Filmed almost completely on blue-screen, "300" takes the story of this battle and turns it into a stylized blockbuster. This is a fabulous flick for any action fan.
