NICOLE SANDOVAL 91/2 years old, recommends "Because of Winn-Dixie," by Kate DiCamillo "It's good and interesting, because a girl finds a runaway dog and they become best of friends." Congratulations, Nicole! You are one of this week's winner of a LightWedge Book Light!
SARAH SEIBERT 14 years old, recommends "The Voyage of Patience Goodspeed," by Heather Vogel Frederick "The Voyage of Patience Goodspeed is a fictitious work about a young girl who accompanies her father on a three year whaling voyage. I really enjoyed reading this book for two main reasons. First, I loved all the references to Nantucket and the real Nantucketers mentioned in this book. I also enjoyed reading about a whaling voyage. Although this book is historical fiction, many of the details about the whaling voyage are true. (In fact, many of the same details are mentioned in a talk at the Nantucket Whaling Museum!) I feel this book really captures the way Nantucket Island and whaling voyages, were in the 1800's." Congratulations, Sarah! You are one of this week's winner of a LightWedge Book Light!
CHRISTINE SEIBERT 11 years old, recommends "Little Woman," by Lousia May Alcott "Although the size may be intimidating, it moves quickly. Similar to the movie, there are four girls struggling with teen and pre-teen Christian life. I enjoyed seeing which character was most like me - faults and virtues, and how they grew spiritually."
AMANDA SANDOVAL 11 years old, recommends "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," by Ann Brashares "It's exciting, has a good flow throughout the story. The book is really captivating. In some parts it is funny.."
ELLEN BESSETTE 9 years old, recommends "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," by J.K. Rowling "I like this book is because Harry Potter organizes a defense group called Dumdledores army. He sees Sirius Black in trouble and he gets D.A. to go and fight Lord Voldemort at the Ministry of Magic."
CAITLIN BRUNNOCK 10 years old, recommends "The Charm Bracelet," by Emily Rodda "I like this book because a girl named Jessie finds a door to the "Realm." The Realm is in danger. Jessie must save the Realm."
