I ON SELECTMEN
• Hear a request from Nantucket Regional Transit Authority director Paula Leary for approval of a Resolution of Support and Verification so she may submit an application to a federal program for assistance in paying to replace two vans used by NRTA to transport elders and the disabled. CONVENING AS THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, MEMBERS WILL: • Hold a public hearing on acceptance of a grant for a bike and pedestrian easement at 39 Nobadeer Farm Road in conjunction with Planning Board conditions. • Hear citizen requests for assent to Land Court petitions for properties at 17 Nonantum Ave., 45 Monomoy Road and 56 Prospect St. CONVENING AS THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN, MEMBERS WILL: • Hear a request to remove a public shade tree on Eagle Lane. • Hear a town administrator's report, if any. AT ITS MEETING ON JULY 18, THE SELECTMEN:
• Unanimously voted to continue a public hearing to consider revising regulations for street openings until Aug. 15. The intent is to improve the way trenches are opened and closed and the revisions contain several elements. They include needing a DPW permit to open a street; only issuing excavation licenses good for one year to licensed contractors; requiring a $10,000 performance bond in case the contractor fails to meet conditions of a permit; revoking a license if work is not done to specifications, though that revocation may be appealed to the selectmen; and disallowing permits between Nov. 15 and April 15 unless a situation is deemed an emergency. • Unanimously approved final language in the Nantucket Sewer Act proposal before it goes before the legislature for consideration. The vote included a decision to send an accompanying letter from the selectmen outlining the town's support of the Act and explaining that after meeting with opponents of the proposal, those people's opinions were incorporated within the board's final decision.
