GLENN SANTOS PERISHES DURING FISHING OUTING Sorrow touched the lives of Joseph and Christine Santos this week when they learned that their son Glenn, 58, died on Sat., July 14, 2007 while fishing with a friend on Lake Ontario. The tragedy was especially poignant for the couple because they lost their first son, Joseph Santos, Jr., of Randolph, Mass. only five years ago.

"He was a lovely person," Christine Santos said of Glenn, who lived in Granby, Mass. for more than 30 years but had a camper on Lake Ontario where he spent almost every weekend. He did not survive on Saturday when his boat began taking on water and went down. "He was kind, he was good and he was really a people person. Everybody loved him."

Born Glenn Robert Santos on Feb. 20, 1949 during a time his parents, both native islanders, resided in New Bedford, Mr. Santos graduated from Nantucket High School in 1967 after becoming what his mother called "the star of his day" on the school football team and set a record for touchdowns.

Following high school Mr. Santos joined the U.S. Air Force where he served in the 101st Airborne Division. His plane was shot down when he was in Vietnam and he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Santos went on to earn undergraduate and master's degrees in education in 1975 and 1982, respectively, from American International College in Springfield, Mass. He was a teacher and later principal of Springfield's Massachusetts Career Development Institute.

Mr. Santos was predeceased by his brother, Joseph. He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Christine Santos, of Nantucket, his sister, Perry Nemechek of Rochester, N.Y., his wife Alison and son Craig Santos of Granby, Mass., nephews Darryl Santos of Plymouth, Mass. and Charles Berbera of Lowell, Mass., and nieces Caroline and Catherine Nemechek of Rochester, N.Y.

Mr. Santos will be buried on Fri., July 20, in Granby, Mass. When she returns to the island after the service, Christine Santos will plan a memorial

celebration of life to be held on Nantucket. I
