ARTSTS' ASSOCIATION OF NANTUCKET

19 Washington St. The AAN Gallery is a cooperative representing over 150 year-round and seasonal Nantucket artists, from emerging talent to seasoned veterans with an established following. Open daily 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., with fresh exhibitions hanging every two weeks throughout the season until the holidays. ART CABINET

2 Union St. In its 13th season, the Art Cabinet has acquired an additional location at the Studio at 18 Dukes Road, with the latest work of Charlotte Culot, Ben Georgia and Prof. W. Chiesa (by appointment, 617-407-5165). New in the gallery at 2 Union St,; two very strong German artists - Petra Amerell and Peter Weber. BRIGHAM GALLERIES

54 Centre St. Group Exhibition. Please join us to welcome summer with an inspiring exhibition of classic to contemporary fine art. Paula Rubino, based in Finland, is just one of many international artists in this exhibition. Also included in this group exhibit are works by local, American and early-American artists. DANE GALLERY

28 Centre St. The gallery will sponsor the Corning Museum of Glass Hot Glass Roadshow July 6 - 8. Live glass blowing demonstrations by Robert Dane and guest artists to be held at the corner of Easton and South Beach streets. Opening reception for glass artists Marc Petrovic, Kari Russell-Pool and other guest artists will be held Fri., July 6, 6 - 8 p.m.

EAST END GALLERY

Old North Wharf Celia Pearson, who was the photographer for Richard LaMotte's book, "Pure Sea Glass," will be signing copies of the book during the reception on Fri., July 6, 6 - 8 p.m., and will exhibit her photographs from July 6 -12 at the gallery. Richard LaMotte's book has captured the imagination of many people who live by the sea, and this will be an excellent opportunity for residents and visitors to Nantucket to meet the photographer and learn about her art.

GALLERY AT FOUR INDIA

Upstairs at 4 India St. "Old World Meets the New World" New exhibit: July 1-31. Three centuries of marine and coastal artists, including the work of Thomas Chambers, James E. Buttersworth, Antonio Jacobsen and other important masters of the sea. Aspecial exhibition of Louis Comfort Tiffany & Studio windows, lamps and accessories from circa 1890's. Solo exhibit of 21st century artist Peter Layne Arguimbau, with a reception July 6, 6 - 8 p.m. The Gallery is Nantucket's only year-round gallery focused on traditional American and European art works. Visit us and enjoy a wide selection of antique to new oriental rugs and a huge collection of sailors' valentines by Jane Santini, Open daily from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

GALLERY BLUE

20 & 21 Old South Wharf Visiting from Rochester, New York, artist Zerbe Sodervick works in landscape monoprints. She focuses on "deliberate landscapes" - "places where water confronts land, highways cut through rock strata walls and fence barriers encroach upon wildlife treks." Working on large scales, Sodervick uses metallic powders as well as litho, offset and etching inks to create a canvas of varied hues and textures.

25B Washington St. Meridian Galleries presents a contemporary marine artistry exhibit, with classic and contemporary "marines," including tall ships, Ameria's Cup yachts, motor cruisers and dinghies. Artists include Dimetrious Athas, Ken Evans, Lisa Horrigan, George Elmer Browne, David Lussier, Yves Parent and others.

Mielko Galleries

4 Old South Wharf Capturing the light and life of Nantucket for over 30 years, the Mielko Gallery exhibits the work of Tom Mielko, Rowenna Anderson and island artists Doug and Deb Sosebee.

23 Federal St. Marshall DuBock's watercolors capture Nantucket's inimitable personality. OLD SPOUTER GALLERY

118 Orange St. The Old Spouter Gallery will once again host a dual exhibition of the new works of island artists Robert Frazier and Howard Fraker. The excitement and spontaneity of Frazier's color layering works exceptionally well with the carefully crafted and hand-finished woodcuts for which Howard Fraker is so well known. The exhibition will open with an artists' reception on Fri., July 6, from 6 - 8 p.m. to which the public is cordially invited.

PIERCE GALLERIES

5 South Water St. Pierce Galleries will have an opening on Fri., July 6, 6 - 8 p.m. for an exhibit of contemporary paintings by Geoffrey Smith that include Nantucket's sparkling sea, lush landscapes and equestrian views.

51 Main St. Asolo exhibit of original oil paintings by artist Ted Polomis will be featured at the The Robert Wilson Galleries. ROUND THE HORN

18 Federal St. Internationally acclaimed artist Sarah Brayer will exhibit a selection of her poured washi paperworks and aquatint prints at Round the Horn Gallery starting Fri., July 6., with a reception at 5 p.m. The New York native has lived in Kyoto since 1980, where she studied etching and traditional woodblock printing with several influential Japanese artists before opening her own etching studio in an old kimono weaving factory there in 1986.

SOUTH WHARF GALLERY

3 India St. Opening Fri., July 6 (with a reception from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.), new work by Anne Baldwin Sutherland. Muted, moody landscapes, romantic still-lifes and vivid interpretations of Sankaty Lighthouse in primary colors are included in the exhibit by this versatile painter. Anne Sutherland is a noted teacher and leader of the popular "Sketching Tours of Nantucket." Her work may be previewed by appointment on Wednesday and Thursday at the South Wharf Gallery Studio by calling 228-0406.

SCRIMSHANDER GALLERY

19 Old South Wharf The gallery features the work of Michael Vienneau, over a dozen of the nation's leading scrimshanders and antique scrimshaw and cribbage boards from Alaska, as

well as Sailors'Valentines and ship models. I
