The final months of the construction effort have been supported by donations of materials and labor from island businesses that include donated items such as concrete, interior doors, wiring and labor. Lighthouse School families include contractors and tradesmen who have donated nights and weekends to the construction effort. The parent council organized weekly cleanings of the construction site, while the building committee has organized and implemented donations of in-kind labor, estimated to have saved roughly $250,000 in construction costs. Donated labor has included digging trenches for radiant heat, installation of cork flooring, cubbies and cabinetry, priming and painting interior walls and trim, and hanging doors in an effort to ready the building for the first day of school in September.
