TO OUR OFF-ISAND SUBSCRIBERS
With The Nantucket Independent's conversion to a free newspaper, there has been a change in the mailing procedure for off-island subscriptions The U.S. Post Office forbids the use the Periodical ("second class") mailing service to free papers, so the paper will be sent Standard ("third class") mail.

For you, this means that delivery of the paper may take longer. It also means that the Post Office will no longer provide forwarding or change of address service. Therefore, if you move, it is very important that you call or e-mail us your change of address.

An option for you going forward is to read the paper at www.acknews.com.

Subscription prices for the newspaper will remain the same to cover the additional off-island mailing cost. We are also offering a nine months subscription for the convenience of people who return to Nantucket for the season.

There is no change in the mailing of subscriptions sent first class. However, because of postage costs, the price of a first class subscription is being raised to $100.00 per year for new subscriptions or at the time of renewal.
