Surfside Dream
J Pepper Frazier Co. $3,595,000
If you close your eyes and think of the phrase, "Nantucket Dream Home," you will likely picture a property with a bright white circular shell driveway. Perhaps you'll see in your mind's eye a spacious main house and generous guest cottage. And, of course, a deep green lawn and wide open vistas. And, undoubtedly, you'll also imagine weathered cedar shingles offset by clean, white trim and a curved arbor gateway leading to a picture-perfect swimming pool framed by bluestone slabs. The image broadens into meticulous landscaping, with manicured lawns and hearty perennials bordered by natural native flora such as cherry, scrub pine and fragrant bayberry. All of which is enhanced by warm, pure sunlight and the smell of the briny ocean air wafting in from nearby.

Of course, for those seeking a home on Nantucket, such a scene need not be a dream. In fact it is a reality at 6 Pochick Avenue in Surfside. Bordering Surfside Road, the property is a quick bike ride and only slightly longer stroll to Surfside Beach - one of the most popular natural attractions on the island. And, despite being close to the water, this home is also a short drive from town, a feature which makes the area a rather desirable neighborhood in which to live.

A proper tour of 6 Pochick Ave. begins on the wide covered front porch with its substantial square columns and impressive front entryway. The wide, open foyer leads straight ahead to the living room, the dining room to the left and a dramatic stairway to the immediate right.

Stepping through the formal dining room with its simple chandelier and blue area rug neatly delineating the dining space, we find ourselves in the kitchen area. The kitchen is defined on one end by a handsome calico granite-topped breakfast bar, and on the other end by a small dining area flanked by an exit to the pool and a wonderful, sunny mud room. The kitchen itself is suitable for a trained chef and one or two sous chefs (or an ardent culinary amateur and friends). The cabinets are a luscious cream color, accented by intricate carved details and with counters of the same warm granite as the breakfast bar. The range is a six-burner restaurant quality model. The sink, a deep porcelain farm sink, is bathed in light from a trio of windows above. A massive island, with a small inset sink, stands in the center of the kitchen, providing what seems like an acre of prep space.

The living room, illuminated by natural light through several French doors leading to the deck and pool outdoors, awaits guests and family. Alarge and dramatic field-stone, raised fireplace is here - powered by gas logs, because who really wants to heft real ones? The two-story cathedral ceiling is visually broken up only by a large chandelier.

Further along a hallway one finds the master suite, which is a wonderful cocoon of a space, providing every creature comfort, from the intimate home theater and sitting room, to the expanse of the sleeping area, to the ornately appointed bath - featuring both a large, glass steam shower and a giant oval soaking tub. A proper water closet and dual sinks make this a truly luxurious master bath.

Upstairs there are two additional, spacious bedrooms. They share a large, bright full bath with wonderful decorative mirrors. On the third floor is a nearly-finished playroom, full bath and a children's bedroom with two built-in beds. This floor is a child's or grandchild's dream. From there, a ship's ladder takes one to the roof deck and wonderful views.

The final stop on the tour of the main house is perhaps the best surprise. In the lower level, you'll find a plush and posh bar and sitting area, equally perfect for poker games or wine tastings. Speaking of which, the home's climate-controlled and rather expansive wine cellar is capable of housing hundreds of bottles.

Opposite the main house, past the swimming pool is the wonderfully spacious guest house. The main downstairs room is sunny and open, serving as kitchen, dining and living room. (A powder room can be found here as well). Upstairs, there is a sitting area and a large master bedroom and bath. Your guests may opt for an additional week or more, once they are thoroughly spoiled in such a way.

This spectacular dream home, minutes from Surfside beach and town, and featuring four bedrooms, four baths and two half

baths, is offered at $3,595,000. I
