Blue Water Bakery to open branch on wharf
BY MARY LANCASTER INDEPENDENT WRITER
On or about June 1, Matt and Cara Stein, the brother and sister owners of Blue Water Bakery on West Creek Road, will open a branch of their bakery at 8 Old South Wharf. The wharf shop will operate from May through Christmas Stroll with goodies and sandwiches prepared at the three-year-old West Creek location and brought fresh throughout the day to the new business.

Cara Stein said she will remain at West Creek to bake and her brother will oversee the wharf shop, which will have limited indoor seating to complement benches along the wharf itself. During the first week, the new bakery will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., but Stein said they want to let customer demand dictate whether the branch stays open later or closes earlier. The Old South Wharf bakery will offer breakfast pastries, bagels, muffins, breads, fruit, granola, yogurt, desserts, sandwiches, drinks and a coffee bar. Initially, pre-made pates will also be sold there as well as cheeses, but eventually the pates will be made fresh at West Creek.

Stein said she was approached by wharf property owner Nantucket Island Resorts whose representative explained that NIR desired to have a quality bakery presence downtown.

"You don't say no to that," she said, adding that she and her brother are hiring more staff to accommodate

the two locations. I
