for the ARTS record Food for Thought: Bob Felch As part of Historic Preservation Month, the Nantucket Historical Association's last "Food for Thought" Lunchtime Lecture will feature longtime 'Sconset resident Bob Felch, who will speak on the topic of Saving Sankaty Lighthouse. Built in 1850, the lighthouse is now resting dangerously close to the 'Sconset bluff. The 'Sconset Trust, of which Felch is a member, has plans to move the entire lighthouse 200 ft. northwest of where it currently stands. Bring your lunch! Family Night at the Atheneum: Tap Team II Two dancers, including founder Robert Burden, will offer families an impressive and energetic look at the street form of tap, known as 'hoofing.' "They're energetic, entertaining and educational - - the three Es," said Carol Bonnar, Executive Director of Young Audiences of Massachusetts, of Tap Team II. (YAM promotes the duo). "During the course of this highly interactive program, audience members explore the percussive qualities of tap, learn its seven basic steps, and experiment with one of the basic building blocks of music - rhythm," according to the Atheneum. RESEARCHING YOUR HISTORIC HOUSE This promises to be an incredibly useful tutorial of the excellent resources available through the Nantucket Historical Association and through other governmental organizations - many of the same resources we use to write our "Under the Eaves" series - in order to perform thorough research on your historic home. When: Sun., May 13 Where: 26 Main St. ('Sconset) Nantucket Wine Festival Opening Events The corks are just coming off the bottles next Wednesday, when the Nantucket Wine Festival opens with a reception at the White Elephant, featuring Moet & Chandon White Star Champagne, appetizers by Brant Point Grill's Neil Hudson and music by Jim Sulzer. Immediately following the reception, "author/restaurateur/television personality/chef" Chris Schlesinger (of Cambridge's East Coast Grill) and Kevin Williamson (of the "terribly hip" Ranch 616 in Austin, Texas) conduct a "Where's the Beef?" grilling demonstration that includes beef and game appetizers. (Williamson is a member of the Texas Beef Council and tours the world "extolling the virtues of Texas beef and game," according to the NWF.) The appetizers will be paired with three Nickel & Nickel single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons from the 2004 vintage (Sullenger Vineyard, Rock Cairn Vineyard and Vogt Vineyard), which will be released in September of this year. When: Wed., May 16, 7 - 8:30 p.m. Where: White Elephant Cost: $75 NHA Properties to open next week The Nantucket Historical Association is opening the doors of its historic properties for the spring on May 17. The Hadwen House at 96 Main St. is a Greek revival mansion that will be open daily (Mon. - Sat., 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sun. noon - 5 p.m.), with tours occurring on the hour and every half-hour. The Oldest House on Sunset Hill is the 1686 home of Jethro Coffin, and includes that new Kitchen Garden. It too is open daily (Mon. - Sat., 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sun. noon - 5 p.m.), with tours taking place every hour and on the half-hour. The Old Mill, at 50 Prospect St., is the oldest continuously operating mill in the country.
