Molloy hired as assistant to AD Larrabee
BY STEVE SHEPPARD INDEPENDENT SPORTS EDITOR
Former Nantucket High School athletic director Jack Molloy began work Monday as a part-time assistant to current athletic director Nancy Larrabee.

The Independent file Jack Molloy returns as a part-time assistant to the athletic director.
Molloy stepped down from the AD post last June after four years on the job, citing the need for administrative help. Nantucket Elementary School principal Nancy Larrabee left that position to assume the dual roles of athletic director and director of health and physical education.

Schools superintendent Dr. Robert Pellicone said that Larrabee's new position is "more in depth" than that of previous athletic directors, noting that her responsibilities involve administration as well as athletics. "She wears a variety of hats," he said. "Nancy is part of the administrative team."

Molloy's duties will center on firming up next fall's sports schedules (excluding football, which is already completed) and being present during athletic events as a field supervisor. The position is for 15 hours a week and pays $18 per hour with no health benefits. Pellicone said the position will be re-posted after the school year ends. The school committee approved a $20,000 salary for a site administrator next year who will assist the athletic director at home games.

Larrabee said she received six applications for the job after it was posted in March. She interviewed five candidates and made her recommendations to the superintendent.

"I'm excited to be back working in athletics," Molloy said Monday. Over the fall and winter he helped announce high school games for Channel 17. He is also coaching the Cyrus Peirce baseball team this spring. "I want to thank Dick Herman for asking me to work with him on television. I've been in athletics for 24 years and it kept me involved with the kids."

"The assistance is appreciated," Larrabee said, noting that as director of health and physical education she must observe and supervise physical education and health teachers, and help develop curriculum on top of her duties as athletic director.

Pellicone stressed the importance of athletics to island education, pointing out that high school athletic programs have grown to meet the need in recent years. "I want these programs to succeed,"

he said. I
