AMAZING COMMUNITY SUPPORT

To the editor:

The Spring Down the House fundraising event on Saturday, April 29, at the Chanticleer and 'Sconset Casino brought the Small Friends' Building Dreams capital campaign out into the open! Small Friends on Nantucket is raising funds to build Nantucket's first LEED certified, environmentally responsible commercial building for its new home. This is a tremendous effort and undertaking and yet we are well underway to making our dreams come true.

The support for Small Friends has been overwhelming: since September of 2006 (a mere six months) we have raised over $1.7 million. Small Friends is Nantucket's only NAEYC accredited, year-round, full day, affordable early education and care program; truly serving this community with a service as vital and important as job viability, affordable housing and sustainable living.

It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child and Nantucket's "village" has stepped up to the challenge. The support for this event was unbelievable. Thank you to all who attended, all who donated to our giving tree, the unflappable Events Committee, our amazing underwriters and the local businesses who gave their skills and labor. Without their support our party would not have happened. These wonderful people and businesses supported a program that truly supports Nantucket.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
