FITTING TRIBUTE

ROB BENCHLEY/The Independent
"The project is done," said Nantucket Land

Council's director Cormac Collier during a lunch yesterday that commemorated the final

filing of conservation restrictions on Linda

Loring's Eel Point Road property. Loring,

pictured here, said she was grateful to the community which came to the aid of her 270- acre tract; these restrictions will permanently

preserve the vast, environmentally significant

sweep of land. Three areas, totaling less than

10 acres, will be set aside for the construction

of a center by the Linda Loring Nature Foundation to further environmental education.

The $14 million Loring Campaign began in the summer of 2004, and was officially deemed

complete at Tuesday's informal ceremony, which was held at the Miacomet Golf Club.

Seated next to Loring is Larry Breakiron,

NLC president of the board of directors.
