GIRLS WIN BIG IN SEASON'S FIRST GAME
 | | MICHAEL GALVIN/The Independent Buoyed by a 9 run second inning, the lady Whalers went on to defeat visiting Holbrook Saturday in the first varsity softball game of the season, 17-1. Although Holbrook struck first by scoring in the first inning, the lone run was all it could manage against Whalers pitcher Grace Anne Tornovish, above, who went the distance. The game ended after five innings because of the discrepancy in the score. Nantucket would score all the runs it needed in the bottom of the first inning by pushing three across the plate. Lindsay Fry went four for four in the game with three runs batted in. |
