STILL UPSET To the editor: I am writing with my concern over the recent recall of Menu Co.'s pet foods. I was doing my usual shopping at Stop & Shop on Saturday. I have a cat, and was buying Iams canned cat food for her. When I got to the checkout, and put the cat food on the conveyor belt, the checkout clerk, Laura, noticed the cans and gave one to one of her colleagues to look at. This was a large tin of salmon. Laura's colleague said that it was bad and took it from me. I applaud them for their awareness. That part of the system worked, thank you. What I would like to know from the manager of Stop & Shop is why were the tins still on the shelf? This is not a new recall. We have known about this recall for a while now. I thought that, surely, you would not have tainted cans still for sale. I even received a letter from Stop & Shop's Andrea Astrachan concerning the recall, also on Saturday. With your new contract you showed your concern for your workers. I must say that for many of us pet owners, pets become our furry children and siblings, or company for those of us who might be living alone. I wonder how many other pets might have become ill, or may have succumbed to death due to tainted food since the recall. I am still upset over this, and felt the need to voice my concern. Thank you. - Robin McElroy Maloney |
