"A NIGHT AT OSCARS" Athleticism, grace and showmanship will be on display this Saturday afternoon at Nantucket Ice when the Nantucket Skating Club presents, "A Night at the Oscars."

The ice show will feature participants from all island skating programs, including both lines of the Island Waves synchronized skating team and individual performances by some of Nantucket's top skaters.

The program was choreographed by Kristin DeFrancisci of Nantucket Ice, and skaters' routines will be performed to the accompaniment of Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated songs, including: A Whole New World, Chim Chim Cheree, Circle Of Life, Footloose, Raindrops Keep Falling on my head, Fame, Under the Sea and Eye of the Tiger.

"We have a huge team of people who have been busy building props and stage sets and sewing costumes," noted Jo Sullivan, manager of Island Waves.

"A Night at the Oscars" will be held this Saturday, March 31, at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. Children under 3 will be admitted free. For more information, call Nantucket Ice at 228-2516.

Runners meet Tuesdays rain or shine at 5:15 p.m. at the corner of Beach and Easton streets for a 5:30 p.m. start. The 5K (3.1 miles) run is on paved roads over a mostly flat course, that is accurately wheel measured, with one hill and some moderate grades. Runners of all abilities, from beginners to veterans, are welcome. There are no entry fees. For information call (508) 228-0206.
