CONNECTING WITH INNER-CITY CHILDREN The Nantucket AIDS Network (NAN) is sponsoring the third year of projectDiscovery Camp in partnership with the Community Network for Children of Nantucket and the Nantucket New School. This year's camp will be held Sunday, June 24 through Friday, June 29 at the Nantucket New School.

The cultural/educational camp will bring together fifth and sixth graders from the St. Ignatius School in the South Bronx with the Nantucket youth, as well as students from New Orleans that have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. NATIONAL GRID AWARDS $1,000 GRANT TO MMA National Grid has awarded $1,000 to the Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) to support the MMA Nantucket Scholarship Fund for its 2007 summer Discovery program. The grant was awarded recently to MMA Executive Director Janet E. Schulte by National Grid Vice President David Fredericks.

Each summer, MMA offers the popular Discovery classes for children from 4 to 12 years old. These classes provide the children a chance to explore Nantucket's natural world through hands-on, field-based learning experiences. MMAis working with the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club to promote and distribute scholarships to island children interested in any of the 35 Discovery classes offered. Applications for the scholarship program are available online at www.mmo.org, or at the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club March 15.

MMA Executive Director Janet Schulte noted, "The grant from National Grid means that the fun of learning about the natural world through MMA's summer Discovery classes will be accessible to more island families. We're delighted, too, to be able to partner with the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club to promote the scholarship program."
