TEN OF MY FAVORITE THINGS:
Charles Soule
The murder mystery "In the Same Space" opens as a drug enforcement agent making his way to Nantucket on the steamship is thrown overboard. Moments, later, the book's hero is on the auto deck of the same ship, waiting in his car to drive. But he can't.

Last month, retired insurance specialist Charles Soule self-published the book he'd wanted to write for 10 years. To-date, he's sold 75 copies of the book, which is available on Amazon.com.
"The car in front of him doesn't move," explained the book's author, Nantucket resident Charles C. Soule. "Because it's the car of the man who was killed." (Can't we all relate?)

The story runs back and forth between Nantucket and Boston, as terrorist attacks flare up around Beantown at the hands of terrorists plotting to stop the signing of a peace treaty that would establish a Palestinian state.

Retired from his life as a disability income insurance specialist, Soule has lived on island with his wife Elna since 1999. He's had the idea for the book kicking around in his head since about two years longer than that.

"It was fun for me, and it was so different from the process of writing text books. You're sitting down and creating from your own mind, rather than researching," said Soule, who self-published the book using Amazon.com's DIY imprint, "BookSurge." The book became available on Amazon.com in February. So far, the author has sold 75 copies. "Not counting the ones I purchased," he said. Soule hopes to have copies in local bookstores by the end of the month.

TEN OF CHARLES SOULE'S FAVORITE THINGS:

1. An evening out with Elna. After 51 years we continue to enjoy each others company, and wine and dinner at table 14 at 56 Union or at the Centre Street Bistro is the perfect end to any day.

2. Visiting our seven grandchildren and watching their personalities grow and mature into interesting young adults.

3. Reading a novel, especially a good mystery. David Baldacci is one of my favorite writers.

4. Sudoku. I do at least a couple every day. I've always loved numbers and math puzzles.

5. Almost any sporting event, except professional wrestling. Football, baseball and the NCAA basketball tournament are my true favorites.

6. Jogging or walking on the many paths on Nantucket. Jogging always gave me a real lift, but since my knee replacement, it's now down to a walk.

7. Travel to almost anyway on the globe. But my favorite places are the mountains, especially the grandeur of the Grand Tetons.

8. Band music, especially anything Sousa. From the time I took my first trumpet lesson in the fourth grade through playing in the band in college, I always enjoyed the thrill of the music of a marching band.

9. Writing. In my business career I had many occasions to write papers and articles, and now in retirement, I find real joy and challenge in creative writing.

10. A good political discussion. I majored in political science in college and enjoy listening and

debating the issues of our time. I
