ENGAGEMENT

Mr. & Mrs. Lee A. Corkish and the Late Susan I. Richrod, all of Nantucket, announce the engagement of their daughter,

Holly Elaine Corkish, to Jeb Edward Backus, the son of Mr. & Mrs. John E. Backus, of Nantucket.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Richard B. Corkish, Jr., Carole E. Corkish & Stephen Ames, Austie Richrod & the late Cecil Richrod, Jr., and Mr. & Mrs. Edward Stojak, all of Nantucket. She is the great granddaughter of Mrs. Frieda Thurston and Mrs. Gertrude Allen both of Nantucket, and Mrs. Myrtle Ostrowski of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire, formerly of Nantucket.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Butler, and the late Mr. & Mrs. Edward Backus all of Nantucket.

The bride-to-be is a 2000 graduate of Nantucket High School and a 2005 graduate of Roger Williams University's School of Art, Architecture & Historic Preservation in Bristol, Rhode Island. She is currently a junior planner for Berkeley County, South Carolina.

The prospective groom is a 2002 graduate of Nantucket High School and a 2004 graduate of Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyoming. He is currently a diesel technician for the Town of Summerville, South Carolina.

The couple, both natives of Nantucket, currently live in Summerville, South Carolina. A June 2008 wedding is planned. BIRTHS

Campbell Murray Taliaferro was born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital on March 1, 2007 weighing 7 pounds and 5 ounces. He is the son of Alexander Murray Taliaferro and Vaill Noel LaMonte Taliaferro and brother of Alexander Mason and Jack McLanahan of Nantucket. His grandparents are Penny Teague of Camarillo, Calif., the late Duncan LaMonte of Bernardsville, N.J., Austin Taliaferro of Easton, Md., and Anne Carroll Cover of Ruxton, Md. His great-grandmother is Jean Taliaferro of Lutherville, Md.

Lucca Augustin Francois Antonietti was born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital on March 5, 2007 weighing 7 pounds and 15 ounces. He is the son of Pascal and Eleanor Antonietti and brother of Thibault and Gillian of Nantucket. His grandparents are Eleanor and Arthur Reade of Nantucket and Michele Dregfus of Cannes, France.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Mark E. Greenfield was named to the dean's list at Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Conn. for the first semester of the 2006- 2007 academic year. Greenfield, who is a senior, is the son of Martha Greenfield of Nantucket.

Kate Howard has been promoted to Assistant Vice President at Nantucket Bank. Kate has been an employee of the bank since 1995 when she started as a teller. Since then she has worked in a variety of capacities in the Commercial Lending department. Kate has recently relocated her office from the Orange Street branch to the Amelia Drive branch, where she manages a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential and personal banking relationships. A graduate of the University of Vermont, Kate and her husband, John Howard, have three children. In addition to her duties at the bank, Kate is very active in community affairs. She is director of Nantucket Ice, Youth Hockey, and Little League Baseball.

Courtney O'Neill, former owner of Handblock, has been chosen as a new project manager and administrator of the Nantucket Wine Festival for ACKtivities Event Planning and Production. Besides tending to many operational details of the festival, O'Neill will manage elements of projects including the Nantucket Film Festival, Circus Flora, the Boston Pops concert and events for corporate groups and weddings. O'Neill is president of the Nantucket Merchants Association, a board member of the Chamber of Commerce, and last year managed 20 Federal Antiques.

Micajah Wiley has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I. To qualify for the dean's list, full-time students must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.6 without receiving a grade below a 'B' in that semester. Micajah, the daughter of Peg Davidson and

David Wiley, is in her senior year. I
