GERMAPHOBES UNITE!

The Maria Mitchell Association is here to help parents and their children understand the human immune system with a twohour workshop called "Grossology," part of its hands-on science program for children in grades one through six and their parents. This month's offering, on March 24 from 12 to 2 p.m., will immerse participants in their immune systems. At lab stations set up in Maria Mitchell's Natural Science Museum, children and their parents will simulate scabs that form on cuts and the mucus secreted by the body during colds and flu.

The workshop costs $10 per child/parent for nonmembers, $8 per child/parent for members and happens at 7 Milk St.

900 LIGHT BULBS Nantucket's Rotary Club is thinking green nowadays and recently delivered 900 compact fluorescent light bulbs to the Council for Human Services as part of Rotary's Nantucket Fuel Assistance Program. The bulbs, which are available at Human Services' office at 2 Fairgrounds Road, can

+ Save 99 kilowatt hours per year or, $12 each,

+ Save 493 kilowatt hours per year or, $57 for five bulbs,

+ Save 986 kilowatt hours per year or, $115 for 10 bulbs.

GET RID OF YOUR WASTE

The first of 10 hazardous waste collection days, hosted by the Department of Public Works, is this Saturday, March 17, at the landfill.

Bring all of your nasty liquids and solids out to the garage at 188 Madaket Road from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. To get there, take the third entrance to the landfill property coming from town and the first coming from Madaket. For a complete listing of what you can and can't unload this weekend, call 228-7244.

If you can't make this collection day, the DPW is holding nine more on April 21, May 19, June 16, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 17 and Dec. 8. I
