"Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert Hot off the paperback presses is Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love" ($15). The author takes us on a journey in order to examine three different aspects of her nature, set against the backdrop of three different cultures: pleasure in Italy, devotion in India and, in Bali, a balance between worldly enjoyment and divine inspiration. Readable, funny and rich in insight.

"Born in Flames"
by Howard Hampton
Just what is this culture that we Americans are unleashing on the world? Howard Hampton may have some answers that start to make sense of it all. In this energetic survey ($29) - mostly of film and music (the title comes from the punk wildwoman Lora Logic's song with Red Crayola back in the late '70s) - he reels off opinions and backs them up with intriguing insights. There's no accounting for taste, of course, but Hampton may make you rethink your admiration for Sting or "Forrest Gump." Mostly he deals in surprising ways with work he really cares about, viewing "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in light of D.H. Lawrence, for example, or considering Meat Loaf as a B-movie version of Bruce Springsteen. Best of all, his enthusiasm will almost surely send you searching for the work of some artist you aren't familiar with.

"Borat: Cultural Learnings of
America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan"
(Rated R for pervasive strong
crude and sexual content including
graphic nudity, and language.)
Sacha Baron Cohen won a Golden Globe for his performance as Borat, the journalist from Kazakhstan who comes to America to make a documentary about the elusive American dream. In this wildly funny and sometimes offensive film, Borat travels across the country to meet and interview strangers to learn more about America. Critics have called this one of the funniest movies of all time. Sacha Cohen is also the creator and star of Showtime's critically acclaimed series, "Da Ali G Show." Very Nice.

"Confetti"
(Unrated)
This British comedy allowed the actors to improvise much of this film, about three couples vying to win "most original wedding of the year." The prize is a million-dollar dream home. The three couples are Matt and Sam (who plan a Hollywood musicalthemed wedding), Josef and Isabelle (who want a tennis-themed wedding) and Michael and Joanna (who want a wedding that goes along with their nudist beliefs). The DVD has three alternate endings that let you choose the winner.
