Crag Hawkins ~ Jim Houghton The Maury People $3,865,000
Spread your wings on Osprey Way The neighborhood known as Cisco is part of a larger area called Smooth Hummocks. Geologically speaking, this part of the island is rather unique. Dotted with only a few homes, the flat sand plain grasslands (a rare and diverse habitat, most of which is protected conservation land) of Smooth Hummocks stretch out to the horizon and are interrupted only by the dramatic fish-hook curve of Hummock Pond itself. The flatness of the terrain allows for some absolutely stunning second story views.

The living room at 19 Osprey Way
The home at 19 Osprey Way sits at the transition point where the land around Hummock Pond rises gradually and stretches out across the sand plain. One of the most attractive features of this particular property is the deeded access to Hummock Pond via a private grassy trail. Kayakers and fishermen will especially appreciate this feature.

Nature, apparently, is an important aspect of the design of this home; there are no fewer than five French doors facing the pond. Which means, no matter where you are in the house, the beauty of the outdoors is only a few steps away.

The kitchen at 19 Osprey Way
A tour of the home begins as one steps onto an almost iridescent flagstone floor in the dramatic foyer. To the left is a generous studio which features a kitchenette, a full bath and its own private outside entrance via a raised open-air deck to the rear of the home. The layout is ideal for guests who wish to come and go as they please, or for family who intend on staying indefinitely.

To the right of the foyer is a wonderful living space with a dramatic staircase and two large, cushioned, built-in window seats. There is plenty of light here thanks to a bank of south-western-facing windows. In the summer the French doors open up to dramatically expand the available living space to include a wide porch and an expanse of grassy lawn beyond.

Around the corner from the living room, down a short hallway and past a small power room, there is a very private sunny guest bedroom with its own bath.

Afew steps beyond the living room brings you to an alcove which serves as the formal dining space and is surrounded on three sides by windows. Afew more steps, and you're in the kitchen - a wonderful, warm, inviting space with a large seating area surrounding a gas-fired stove that looks like a traditional cast-iron and enamel wood stove (yet, without the hassle of wood to carry and store). The countertops are a warm, highly polished and flecked granite which sit atop finely crafted cabinets faced with ash. The appliances, which are top quality and onyxblack, seem to fade into unobtrusively the color scheme.

A beautiful, sweeping view of Hummock Pond.
In addition to the straight staircase that leads from the living room to an office on the second floor, there's also a dramatic eight-foot spiral staircase in the center of the home that brings one up to a peaceful sitting area with its own balcony. Here, the views are the most dramatic and sweeping.

On a clear day, once can see the deep blue of the Atlantic to the far left and the old barn in the center of Sanford Farm to the right. The views of the Head of the Plains and Madaket in the distance are broken up only by a few cottages and two poles used by ospreys for nesting. In the spring, the ospreys return to nest and feed on fish which they pluck, with apparent ease, from the waters of Hummock pond. It's quite a show.

Two large bedrooms with cathedral ceilings and plenty of built-in storage share a single, massive master bath in the center of the second floor. The centerpiece of the bathroom is a wonderfully large soaking tub surrounded by polished granite and bathed in light from a set of southeast-facing windows. Such a tub could tempt anyone to soak all evening with a book and a glass of wine.

This three bedroom, 3-1/2 bath home with deeded access to Hummock Pond and sweeping, dramatic views is within walking distance of Cisco

Beach and is offered at $3,865,000. I
