Stop signs go up at Fairgrounds, Surfside and South Shore roads

MICHAEL GALVIN/The Independent In the third week of March, drivers heading north and south through the intersection of Fairgrounds, Surfside and South Shore roads will be required to stop at new stop signs. The Board of Selectmen voted to create a four-way stop at this intersection on the recommendation of the Nantucket Planning & Economic Development Commission and Transportation Planner Michael Burns because of high accident rates.
