ARMCHAIR THEATRE READS "EQUUS"
Weeks in advance of the much-hyped West End production of "Equus" (starring Danielle Radcliffe, of Harry Potter fame), Nantucket's Armchair Theatre hosted a reading last Sunday evening of playwright Peter Shaffer's controversial and compelling drama. The play tells the story of a young man with a pathological sexual desire for horses, which he expresses, in part, by mutilating them. At the Nantucket Historical Association's historic home at 99 Main Street, over 35 people attended the reading, which was directed by Meredith Martin. "Meredith really did a wonderful job of bringing this difficult and exciting play to life, just from actors sitting in their chairs and letting the words and their voices make the drama," said Grace Noyes, who attended the event.
