Hockey team takes two from Bourne
BY STEVE SHEPPARD
In home and away games against two different squads from Bourne, the Whalers' hockey team won Saturday and Sunday by scores of 4-2 and 7-2.

Whaler goalie Joe Bopp is ready to block another shot as defenseman Matt Dunham rushes in to foil the Bourne attack. Bopp put in a stellar game, saving 11 shots in the second period alone.
Five different Whalers scored in Sunday's home game against Bourne Youth Hockey, with Bryce Eldridge and captain Harry Robishaw scoring twice.

Nantucket took a 1-0 advantage in the first period on an unassisted goal by Ethan Bell and never trailed after that. The closest Bourne came was early in the second period as Eldridge scored his first goal of the period (with an assist by Robishaw) at the 13:34 mark. Six seconds later Bourne narrowed the score to 2-1, but steady pressure by Nantucket skaters resulted in a scoring flurry that effectively put the game away. Gaven Norton, Danny Kurash (assisted by Chris Ray), Eldridge (assisted by Bell), and Robishaw (assisted by Devon Kohler) combined to make the score 6-1 before the period ended.

Bourne was able to score in the last stanza, but Robishaw bookended the Nantucket scoring by slipping one past the goalie at the 27 second mark for the final, 7-2, tally. Joe Bopp turned in an excellent performance in the net, as he recorded 11 saves in the second period alone, and 32 overall.

In Saturday's game at Bourne, Chris Ray, Eldridge and Robishaw all scored (with Robishaw scoring twice) to lead the Whalers to a 4-2 victory over Bourne's junior varsity.

The Whalers host the Nantucket Invitational Tournament this Friday and Saturday. The big matchup against the Vineyard is Friday at 7 p.m. The tournament continues Saturday morning at 10
