TOWN ELECTION 2007
No candidates for SHAB seats Mahon, Visco do not return papers
Races in the upcoming election lost candidates as of Monday's 5 p.m. deadline to turn in nomination papers when Gene Mahon did not submit his forms for selectman and Donald Visco failed to file for the Planning Board. Mahon had been a candidate for one of two open selectmen's seats along with Rick Atherton, Neville Richen, Patty Roggeveen and David Gray. Visco, a Planning Board incumbent and its current chairman, was running against Nat Lowell.

The Shellfish and Harbor Advisory Board, which has three available seats, and the open slot for a Historic District Commission associate failed to draw any candidates.

Besides the four seeking terms on the selectmen, the final roster of candidates includes John McLaughlin and Linda Williams, both Historic District Commission incumbents seeking another term, and Deborah Timmerman, also running for the HDC. Catherine Stover is up for her fourth term as Town Clerk and Jenny Garneau is running for School Committee. John Pearl returned papers for a seat on the 'Sconset Water Commission and Noreen "Nonie" Slavitz, an incumbent on the Wannacomet Water Commission, is running again. Peter Kyburg is running for a seat on the Land Bank Commission along with Steve McCluskey and Robert Gardner. Sarah Alger is running again for Town Meeting moderator. The seat for this year on the Nantucket Housing Authority is a state appointed, rather than an elected position and is currently occupied by Alan Brown.

Doug Bennett did not pull papers and will not be running for another

term on the Board of Selectmen. I
