"Library Lion" by Michelle Knudsen,
ill. By Kevin Hawkes Every now and then you have to break the rules - even if you're a lion who must take up residence in the library. "Library Lion" ($16) by Michelle Knudsen and illustrated by Kevin Hawkes is a fully colored children's picture book aimed at young readers ages 4-7. It shows with humor and affection how lions and libraries may not be such an outlandish combination after all.

"Passionate Minds"
by David Bodanis David Bodanis, author of "E=MC2, the biography of The Theory," takes us back to Einstein's precursors in the early 18th century: a remarkable and brilliant woman, Emilie du Chatelet, and her lover, the pre-eminent poet and dramatist of France, Voltaire. Emilie, a voracious reader and intellect, skilled at mathematics and science comparable to few minds of the period, not only advanced Newtonian physics with her extraordinary experiments, but she translated and explained Newton's Principia, his treatise on gravity, from Latin into French. (This is still the only complete version in French.) Amidst all this science, Bodanis vividly portrays a world of romance and lovers, of duels, of flights from the King's agents, and the crumbling of the social order that led, ultimately, to the French Revolution. At the center are Emilie and Voltaire with their wild, passionate love for each other and ideas that would remake the world.

"Hollywoodland" (Rated R for language, some violence
and sexual content.) "Hollywoodland" focuses on two stories and time periods. It follows the life of George Reeves (Ben Affleck) an actor who is realizing that he's not going to "make it big" in Hollywood in the 1950's, and, about 15 years later after his mysterious demise, it follows Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), the detective hired to uncover the truth about his death. Through flashbacks, the film shows the life of George Reeves leading up to his death, and explores the parallels between his life and Simo's. Ben Affleck's performance is subtle and powerful. Though some reviewers felt that the detective's narrative fell flat, I think the movie is definitely worth seeing.
