For the second time this diving season, Paradis broke the Nantucket High School record she set this year in the 1-meter dive. On Sunday she scored 178.1, bettering her previous mark of 176.55.
Her feat came in a meet with Coyle-Cassidy High School, which saw other notable performances by Nantucket swimmers. Ainsley Ellis put in two season-best times in the 200- yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke, finishing first in both events with respective times of 2:06.02 and 1:05.45. Beau Garufiqualified for the state tournament in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.87 swimming the butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke. Lorne Paterson put in a fine performance in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.83.
Overall, the girls had seven firstplace finishes in 12 events, but dropped the meet 99-84. Besides Ellis and Paradis, Ashley Martin had 2 first-place finishes: in 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. The girls also finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (with Ellis, Martin, Katie McInerney and Haley Cabre), and the 400-yard freestyle relay (with Martin, Ellis, Cabre and Meaghan Lynch).
On the boys' side, the Whalers finished first in five events, winning 64-16, before going on to swim a series of exhibitions because Coyle- Cassidy only had three male swimmers
on its squad. I
