WORK BEGINS ON NEW CHILDREN'S BEACH RAMP
Work crews from Robert B. Our Construction Co., Inc. of Harwich, seen here readying drainage pipes for installation, demolished most of the Children's Beach boat ramp and piers last week in preparation for installation of a new boat ramp and two finger piers. The project, costing $578,000, includes aligning the boat ramp with Harbor View Way and the ramp's channel, widening the ramp from 23 to 33 feet, lengthening it from 55 to 70 feet, changing its pitch from seven to 11 degrees and making the channel six feet deep at mean low tide.
This week, Our's crew will start driving sheet steel around the work area to dewater it so they can pour the concrete ramp, build the new piers, install storm barriers and build a three-foot high bulkhead. Marine Superintendent Dave Fronzuto said he expects the work to take six to eight weeks.
Scallopers and other boat owners who need to get their boats hauled should contact Fronzuto at 228-7261. He is coordinating boat hauling with Grey Lady Marine and several other boatyards.
