SWIM TEAM SPLITS WITH HOLLISTON Beau Garufiand Ainsley Ellis turned in state tournament-qualifying performances as the Whalers split Saturday's home meet against Holliston. The boys' team won 103 to 64, while the girls fell to the visitors, 83 to 102.

Garufi's time of 1:05.96 in the 100-yard breaststroke was not only his personal best time in the event, but was a qualifying time for the state tournament. Ellis turned in a time of 1:06.51 in the 100-yard backstroke, also a state tournament qualifying time.

Overall, both boys' and girls' teams earned 7 first place finishes over 12 events.

Justine Paradis finished first in diving, while Tiffany Lee, with just six practices under her belt, came in third place in the event, netting a score of 113.20. "Any time you can get over a hundred points in that event is a nice accomplishment," coach Jim Pignato noted.

The boys are now 2-0 on the year, while the girls are 1-1 as both teams prepare for tomorrow's away meet with rival Nauset.

ANNUAL STUDENT SOCCER MEETING TUESDAY The annual meeting of the Nantucket Student Soccer Association will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Nantucket High School Conference Room in the main hallway. All interested parties are invited to attend, which includes parents and players involved with the NSSA.

The NSSA fall awards program will be held Monday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Nantucket High School Auditorium. All parents and players who participated in the fall programs are invited to attend.
