MAKING CONNECTIONS
Unfortunately for those of us who for years enjoyed the relative solitude of the single-track bike trail cutting through Wyers Valley connecting Milestone and Old South roads, work crews brushcut that trail in mid-December, making it wide enough for several cyclists to maneuver through.

The work will eventually result in the connector bike path between the Old South Road and Milestone Road bike paths.

Transportation Planner Michael Burns said that the trench for the path bed, on which crushed stone will be laid, should be completed this week, and the path completed and open for non-motorized traffic by Memorial Day.

That path's opening date should coincide with the final section of the Old South Road bike path wrapping up from Naushop to Nobadeer Farm Road.

However, still in the design phase, said Burns, is the second connector between the Milestone and Old South bike paths tracking Nobadeer Farm Road just west of Strong Wings, the Nantucket New School, Small Friends and the Nantucket Racquet Club.
