OBITUARY The eldest of three, Robert was born July 6, 1927 in Chicago to Robert, a musician and Manya, a dancer. He moved to New York City after attending Dartmouth and Carnegie-Mellon. After spending a few years in the Printing business, he started a summer custom sandal business on Federal Street on Nantucket with his wife, Sandra. Their son, Brian, was born in New York in 1962, and daughter, Jill, in 1966. In the late 1960s, Robert returned to school to get graduate degrees in Child Psychology and Psychotherapy. In 1972, he closed his sandal business to take up counseling and therapy work fulltime in the city. He continued to vacation on the island with his family in the summer where he clammed, sailed, and cooked. “From Soles to Souls” was his favorite adage. In 1995 he semi-retired to Nantucket and took up permanent residence there continuing a small psychotherapy practice while driving buses for the town school system as well as NRTA. He also rediscovered his love of music, singing in island choirs and taking roles in various performances. He stopped driving buses for the town when he was hired by the state to initiate and coordinate a foster care program on Nantucket. He assisted in social work cases as well as ran workshops that enabled his DSS coworkers to more efficiently coordinate their efforts. He is survived by his wife, two children, three grandchildren and his sister.
