PROVOST NAMED KLINGENSTEIN VISITING FELLOW PProfessor Pearl Rock Kane, Director of the Klingenstein Center at Columbia University, has announced that David Provost, Head of the Nantucket New School, has been named a 2007 Klingenstein Visiting Fellow.

Each year twenty heads from independent and international schools are selected as Klingenstein Visiting Fellows at the Klingenstein Center in New York City. The object of the Klingenstein Leadership Program is to encourage a sustained and thoughtful leadership in American independent schools both here and abroad. Visiting Fellows spend two weeks in January at Columbia University as guests of the Center.

“Few opportunities for professional advancement can equal this prestigious program,” said Provost. “I am looking forward to taking full advantage of the resources of New York City, Columbia University, the Teachers College and the shared experiences with my colleagues.”

Starting on January 21, Provost will spend his time attending seminars, special readings, lectures and tours. He will also gain exposure to the dynamic mix of public, public/charter and private schools in New York.

“The Visiting Fellows program, held each year in January, chooses its applicants as much for what they bring to the conversation as for what they may take away,” said Bruce Buxton, Director of Planning for the Klingenstein Center. “Seven of this new cohort of twenty Visiting Fellows are heading American international schools.”

“The 2007 Fellows also include heads from American boarding schools, urban day schools, and country day schools from every region of the United States, including Hawaii,” said Buxton.
