      She is the lean, mean muscle machine who has become a familiar sight rollerblading with speed and grace down the Milestone bike path. Known to all as Scotty, Scott Clauss Thompson is a body builder and personal trainer, but inside her steel-like frame is a creative softie who enjoys gathering shells, greens and colorful berries and spending time with her daughter, Marlee.

New director welcomed at the Adult Community Day Center
      The Adult Community Day Center has named Katherine Eilert as its fourth director who will officially begin in her leadership role on December 17. Eilert, the business operations coordinator at Our Island Home for nearly nine years, is taking over for Karen Zegarowski who became director in April of 2000. Her last day at the center is December 14.

Planning staff may assume entire workload of ZBA
      By a vote of 8-0, the Nantucket Planning & Economic Development Commission endorsed the concept of creating a memorandum of an agreement with the Board of Selectmen for the planning staff to assume all Zoning Board of Appeals duties.

Nantucket Court Report
      Monday's court marked the beginning of three days during which jury trials could be held or scheduled for a later session. The jury trial for Evan D. Marley, 40, of 5 Eagle Way, started Monday and ended yesterday with a verdict of not guilty. Marley was charged Jan. 6 with driving under the influence of alcohol, his third offense, and failing to stop and speeding.

Scallop harvest already exceeds that of last season
Scallopers nearing 10,000-bushel mark in second month of season
      Commercial scallopers hauled in an estimated 6,300 bushels as of Nov. 29, with an average of 300 bushels per day for the first 21 days of the season. Peering through his tripod-mounted monocular from his second-floor office at the head of the town pier last week, Marine Superintendent Dave Fronzuto shook his head in disbelief.
