Mistake costs varsity soccer team league championship
      Last Thursday after practice, Principal George Kelly delivered yet another devastating blow to a varsity boys soccer team that had seen its share of adversity this season. The team had been disqualified from post season play and been stripped of its Lighthouse League championship title.

Whalers defeat Old Colony
      Junior quarterback Chris Welch threw a pair of touchdown passes to senior wide receiver Jordan Ferreira and junior tailback Hunter Day rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown to lead Nantucket High School to a 19-8 Mayflower Small League victory over Old Colony Saturday. The win was the first of the year for the Whalers and the second win in a row over Old Colony.

Lighthouse makes Sankaty's fifth
A Masterpiece
      It's the signature hole on one of New England's most scenic golf courses, and it's been recognized as perhaps the single best golf hole on Nantucket. It's the fifth at Sankaty, of course. Over the past month, however, there have been some, let's say, alterations to the course layout.

Skaters make fundraising waves
      They have sold cookies and bulbs and now they are auctioning off tables, sort of. In an on-going effort to fundraise creatively, the Island Waves - Nantucket's synchronized skating team - will host a fundraiser Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10 at Preservation Institute, complete with silent auction for tables designed by designers, business people and restaurants.

Middle school soccer finishes season strong
      Both CPS middle school soccer teams had strong outings this fall. Comprised of seventh and eighth graders, the girls and boys squads posted winning records that rivaled any other school fall sports team this season. The CPS girls finished up the season with a 6-2-1 record.

Disappointment for girls varsity field hockey
      After playing themselves into a position to control their own destiny by beating Wareham 2-1 last Tuesday, the girls varsity field hockey team faced a do or die situation. Nantucket hosted Tyngsborough high school on Saturday needing a win or at least a tie in order to amass enough points to put them into the playoffs.
