We were coasting along with the outgoing tide, past lovely, well manicured homes, and came upon this pair, somehow coexisting as each did its own thing on the expanse of green lawn that swept up to the bulkhead. Nantucket Whalers ace Eric Lowell (above) was the winning pitcher in the game three finale that saw Yates edge Toscana, 6-5. Lowell's performance mirrored that of his father, Nat, who pitched Yates to victory in game one. More ... The Nantucket boys' soccer squad opened its fall season with back-to-back home games last weekend against two tough opponents. "Playing back-to-back is a hard way to open the season but I knew from the scrimmages that they would come together," according to coach Rich Brannigan, who has been with the team since 1998 and head coach since 2000.
