Shakespeare by the Sea
      In its third year, the Nantucket Arts Council's Shakespeare by the Sea festival has really begun fluffing out its collar and letting out its robes. Headlining this year, Nantucket's own Seaside Shakespeare takes over the Children's Beach stage for three performances of "Twelfth Night.

Memories of a Nantucket childhood
Hoorn-Ashby basks in Maud Bryt's portraits of island summers
      In her career as a photographer and artist, Maud Bryt has made a lifelong study of the clean lines and bold colors of New England Americana. Bryt's love of clean-cut optimism is evident in the series of covers she photographed for J. Crew, and she translates that optimism with oil into a series of paintings on exhibit at the Hoorn-Ashby gallery this week.

A meander through Monomoy homes and gardens
Nantucket Garden Club House Tour on August 8
      This Wednesday, August 8, the Nantucket Garden Club will host a tour of six homes and gardens in the Monomoy neighborhood just west of downtown. Busses leave from Washington Street or the adventurous are encouraged to come by bicycle or on foot. Tea will be served for all in the garden at 52 Monomoy Road from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Natalie Cole guest stars with Boston Pops
      This year, the 11th Annual Boston Pops on Nantucket concert features special guest Natalie Cole and sees the return of conductor Keith Lockhart, conducting the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. Tim Russert, managing editor and moderator of "Meet the Press" and political analyst for "NBC Nightly News" and "The Today Show," will again host the event.
