ConCom allows SBPF's bluff terracing to continue
      Whether the Siasconset Beach Preservation Fund's bluff terracing project is a success or a complete failure in light of the losses suffered during last spring's storms is now the subject of a Conservation Commission review of storm damage to the project.

Town fills shellfish biologist position after two-year hiatus
      For the first time in more than twoand half years, Nantucket has shellfish biologist. The town hired Jeff Mercer last week to fill the position left vacant by current Town Biologist Keith Conant in the spring of 2005 when then Town Biologist Tracy Curley resigned and Conant, formerly the town's shellfish biologist, advanced to that position.

State would help pay for parking
      If the town were to build a parking garage for 200-300 cars on National Grid property on Candle Street, there is a pretty good chance state grants could help fund the new parking spaces. The grants would come from state programs, or through a private economic development firm in Boston called MassDevelopment.

Veteran teachers bid NES adieu
      Two veteran teachers said farewell this morning to Nantucket Elementary School. Second grade teacher Elizabeth "Betsy" Mann retired after 22 years as an educator, and fourth grade teacher Jim Sulzer is moving on to a new position at the Nantucket New School. Combined, they have taught in the Nantucket public school system for 39 years.

      As Cape Wind Associates expected, the U.S. Department of Defense indicated that its 130 wind turbines proposed for Nantucket Sound would not affect the air force early warning missile defense system at Otis Air Force Base.
