A SEASON SWEEP and now the playoffs
      Yes, we can say it now: the Lady Whalers are perfect. They finished the regular season last Thursday with an 18-2 demolition of Holbrook, their run total on the day matching their victories for the year. They completed the string with wins on four successive days, earning a trip to the state tournament that in all likelihood will begin here either Friday or Saturday.

SIZE ISN'T EVERYTHING
      So it's the 30th anniversary of the release of "Star Wars." That's a pretty serious milestone. For my generation, it was a badge of honor to tell people how many times you'd seen the movie, where you first saw it, that kind of thing. And just for the record, I saw it for the first time at the Dreamland Theater on Nantucket.

Strong first half leads Whalers into playoffs
      The Whalers' varsity lacrosse team qualified for post-season play with last Wednesday's 18-6 home victory over Cape Cod Academy. Hakeem Lecky scored a team-record five goals and seven assists, while Keith Clemens had another strong game in goal to help lead the Whalers into the state tournament.

Three NHS teams are tournament bound
      For one team, it was simply a matter of waiting for the calendar to confirm it, but for the two other teams that made it to the postseason this spring, the desired outcome wasn't so easily reached.

Figawi High School Invitational results
      Twelve crews from ten schools competed in the eighth annual Figawi High School Invitational regatta held just off the Boat Basin finger piers Sunday morning. Barnstable High School, which had two crews competing, took first and third places, with Martha's Vineyard coming in second place. Nantucket, which also fielded two crews, placed ninth and tenth.

      What an unfortunate nickname! But we'll get into that later. This bird is also known as 'fly up the creek!' It's a bird I know more from its call than from its appearance.
