Hockey team takes two from Bourne
      In home and away games against two different squads from Bourne, the Whalers' hockey team won Saturday and Sunday by scores of 4-2 and 7-2. Five different Whalers scored in Sunday's home game against Bourne Youth Hockey, with Bryce Eldridge and captain Harry Robishaw scoring twice.

Dolphins beat Marshfield at last; set three new records
      In what coach Jim Pignato called "one of the most exciting meets" in which he's been involved, the Dolphins outswam Marshfield Sunday, racking up 546 total points to Marshfield's 491. It was the Dolphins' first victory over Marshfield since 1995. "Marshfield is a powerhouse in our league," Pignato said. "We were able to pull out a win by doing the little things correctly.

Whalers drop close contest to Cohasset in thriller
      It was the best boys basketball game of the season, only the final result was not what the Nantucket faithful were hoping for, as Cohasset took a 59-56 triumph at the John J. O'Neill gymnasium on Saturday. Senior center Kevin Stanton scored a team high 17 points with nine rebounds and sophomore forward Josh Butler added 14 points and a team high 13 rebounds.

Lady Whalers have busy schedule before playoffs
      With less than two weeks to go before the playoffs, the NHS girls' basketball team still has five games remaining, and coach Willis Ferreira plans to use the rest of the schedule to get his team tournament ready. Although the Whalers have qualified for the postseason, any extra victories the team can accumulate can only help towards earning home playoff games.

BIRDS OF NANTUCKET
      ANOTHER NANTUCKET DUCK! This bird is a treat for the new birder. It's so pleasing to have a bird that has a name that describes it, unlike the Red-bellied Woodpecker or the Orange-crowned Warbler. This duck is known as the Redhead and the drake (at least) has a fine rufous-red head. It is a close relative of the Canvasback we talked about last spring, "A Very Famous Duck.

After BCC meet, it's off to state sectionals for swim team
      The Nantucket boys finished second overall and the girls fifth overall in last weekend's Bay Colony Conference championships at New Bedford. The Whalers competed against seven other schools in the competition. Harrison O'Rourke finished first in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle, while Beau Garufifinished first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
