From the s i d e l i n e s CAIO’S LEGACY The accolades keep coming in for Nantucket soccer sensation Caio Correa. On Sunday he was named Division 3 player of the year by the Boston Globe and one of the paper’s select All-Scholastic Athletes. In its writeup the paper said: “No player in the state could rival Correa's offensive production this season. The 5-foot-10-inch, 140-pound midfielder from Rio de Janeiro led Eastern Massachusetts in scoring with 34 goals and 26 assists, giving the sophomore a whopping 104 points in just two years of playing at the high school level.” Correa previously had been named an All- State player by the Coaches Association. He has returned to Brazil to further his soccer career. NSSA SPRING TRAVEL SOCCER REGISTRATION Final registration for spring travel soccer teams from U8 to U18 will continue at the high school cafeteria tomorrow, December 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a mandatory registration so that rosters can be submitted to the South Coast Soccer League. All interested players, even those who have registered online, must attend one of the sessions. Please bring a photocopy of a birth certificate or passport. The player must be present for a photo and signature for pass cards. Please inform the NSSA at that time as to uniform needs for the spring season. Runners meet Saturdays, rain or shine, at 8:45 a.m. at the corner of Beach and Easton streets for a 9 a.m. start and a 5K (3.1 miles) run on paved roads over a mostly flat course (accurately wheel measured), with one hill and some moderate grades. Runners of all ability from beginners to veterans are welcome. There are no entry fees. For information call 228-0206.
