Whalers defeat Chatham
Playing its first home game of the year, the Whalers boys’ basketball team turned back Chatham Monday afternoon, 68-48. The win evens Nantucket’s record on the young season as the team dropped Saturday’s opener at always tough Avon, 92-83. “We ran well and finally played a little bit of D,” said head coach Beau Almodobar after Monday’s game. “We still need more discipline on offense.”

The victory was all the more satisfying because Chatham beat Nantucket twice last year.
The Whalers’ next home game is Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against South Shore Tech.
The junior varsity was also victorious, taking a 47-45 close one from its Chatham counterparts.
