MLECZKO STEPS DOWN AS PRESIDENT OF NANTUCKET ICE After serving in the position for eight years, Priscilla "Bambi" Mleczko has stepped down as president of the board of directors of Nantucket Ice. Former treasurer Steve McDonough began his term as new club president last Friday.

"I just thought it was time to step down," Mleczko said, adding that she thinks McDonough is well suited to succeed her.

Mleczko will remain as a member of the board of directors, a position she has held since the rink's inception.

Mleczko and her family were instrumental in the establishment of Nantucket Ice. "Our whole family plays hockey," she said. Her husband, Tom, was a long-time coach in Connecticut and her daughter, A. J., was a prominent member of the first gold medalwinning U. S. women's hockey team.

A life-long summer resident of Nantucket, and current year-round resident, Mleczko said she and her husband might have begun their family on Nantucket had a rink existed at the time. Tom was offered a job in the public schools over 30 years ago, but his love of hockey, and his calling to coach the sport, kept them in Connecticut where, under his tutelage, A. J. learned to skate.

Mleczko is pleased with the growth of Nantucket Ice and what it means to the island. "It's been great to watch it grow," she said. "We're getting there."
